There’s a NEW holiday tradition being added to St. Louis’s social calendar this year! “Holiday Magic” comes to America’s Center, December 4-6, and it promises to be an exciting and entertaining event for families and shoppers. Enjoy wood carving demonstrations and hands-on crafts, a dazzling light show with over 40,000 holiday lights choreographed to holiday music, and a full-scale indoor carnival.
And best of all . . . Walter Knoll Florist will be there with a special treat for children . . .

It’s gonna be great – we’ll have hundreds, maybe thousands of white poinsettias for kids to paint – as well as protective gear to keep their little outfits tidy – so come on down and get in the Christmas Spirit!

As we prepare and set up our booth for the big show we are also installing over 75 real live Christmas trees around the center-complete with lights!

And our booth will have lots of fully decorated trees and ideas as well as special “show” pricing – there will be ornaments and garland and wreaths and swags you can buy and take with you and we will also have on display our Holiday Arrangements (you may have seen them on our Holiday Unwrapped 2009 brochure we mailed out last week) – so come on down, bring the kids (and $5 of course-proceeds benefit Mathews-Dickey Boys and Girls Club). Tell ‘em Di sent you!

Speaking of poinsettias – you know it’s an old wives tale about them being toxic, don’t you? Well, although we don’t recommend you eat them, they are NOT poisonous.

Here is a pic of a poinsettia painted by a 73-year old!

How about a blue or purple poinsettia?

Can’t get down to the Convention Center this weekend? Don’t despair – visit our garden center at California and LaSalle and see all our poinsettia varieties – here’s a sampling!

Step back into prehistoric time and enter the world of the dinosaur!

Sixteen life-size animatronic dinosaurs will move, roar and spit in the Saint Louis Zoo’s one-of-a-kind walk-through exhibit opening near River’s Edge in spring 2008. The temporary exhibit Dinoroarus will be open April 18 through September 1, 2008.

Watch the KSDK Newschannel 5 video of their arrival at the Zoo on April 1.

Walk among the reptilian giants and gaze into the eyes of dino mega-stars, including Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops and Stegosaurus.

Young paleontologists can unearth some Jurassic treasures in the hands-on Fossil Dig and climb atop a duck-billed dino “parasaurolophus” for a unique photo opportunity.

Thrill seekers can experience “Dino Island 2,” a 3-D motion simulator (additional fee).

Expand your knowledge of dinosaurs by finding their living relatives throughout the Zoo, including the tuatara at the Herpetarium. Compare and contrast present day giants such as elephants, bears and giraffes, to the size of dinosaurs. Learn how the Zoo is working to protect endangered wild animals from going extinct like the dinosaurs.

The immersive exhibit will feature 17 life-size animatronics dinosaurs in a naturalistic setting on Zoo grounds. Their booming roars, curious clicks and adorable chirps will fill the air and transport you to a land before time.

Many educational opportunities will be incorporated into this exciting exhibit.

Dog days of summer bring thoughts of refreshing watermelon to me. Great to eat as these fellows are enjoying theirs – outside – easy clean up with a garden hose, and if seeds escape, just maybe you’ll end up with something like this on your fence next year! Is this the cutest watermelon you have ever seen? It’s the size of a baseball today, but only as big as a marble one week ago.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_H3hkH2dX5_o/Rrioa3ZTiXI/AAAAAAAAABc/DC3BSl3DaJ8/s320/melon1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5096008157869869426" />

Like Sunflowers and cucumbers, watermelons are great fun for the kids to watch grow, especially once the fruits start setting – Like I said, the size of a marble to as big as a baseball in one week – how magic is that!

Another fun kid thing is Look What I Made. Every Saturday afternoon at 2pm all of our retail locations offer this free program to children under 12. Kids come in and make a flower arrangement for a parent or teacher or even for themselves. Turnout and feedback from parents and children and WKF staff has been great. Everyone has a good time.
